first impression
DATE OF FINALIZED TRANSFORMATION: 03/09/20 (transformation timeline)

VISUAL. (CANON) MTT, MTT EX, MTT NEO. (AEFENGLOM) w/ MTT-BRAND MONSTER HEELS, a decent facing sketch, HONESTLY just look at this (most recent) sketch for a rough idea. im trying my BEST. and here's classic mettaton.

HEIGHT.
MTT: 5'2", sans ears.
MTTEX: 6'8" Anywhere between 6'5" and 7'2", sans ears. If he's not standing flat-footed, he's usually stands at about 6'9".

WEIGHT. ~300 lbs

BUILD.
This is an odd answer to give, every time. MTT is Built Like A Box. MTT EX has broad, broad shoulders and very narrow waist, with the development of a more hourglass figure thanks to his powerful Puca legs giving him the appearance of thicker thighs.

HAIR. Black. Metal.

EYES. Gold. Heavy-lidded.

VOICE.
IF IT'S IN ALL-CAPS, TRY THIS.
If it's in sentence case, the best I have to offer is this clip of Mettaton saying "Yeah~" when he gets injured.

The general rule is that Mettaton will have the announcer's voice, while Mettaton EX will have the boyband voice. He is capable of pitching it even higher — you can get an idea of what I mean based on the notes he hits in his shitty FFVI-esque opera.

The deeper his voice is pitched, the more it's synthesized: loud and booming. But the higher it goes, into his middling range, the more natural it sounds: modulated and pleasant. His voice is full of inflection and expression, not at all monotonous. It's distinctly "masculine". Regardless of his pitch, Mettaton's voice is silky smooth, completely lacking in any gravelly, gutteral quality.

Now that Mettaton is a Puca, he has full control over his voice and can technically eliminate any synthetic quality to it. He can perfectly imitate any voice he wishes beyond his previous capabilities.

FEATURES. This is going to be excluding Puca characteristics, or else we'd be here all day.
  • FOR TURNSKINS (& THOSE WITH A SIXTH SENSE?): of all Witches and Monsters in Aefenglom, only fully shifted Turnskins are capable of being able to tell that Mettaton is a ghost inside of a robot. Characters who somehow have a sixth sense in Aef's setting can also figure that out. Y'all have my OK.

  • Screen lights up in an array of brightnesses and colors: yellow, red, blue, green, and pink. Screen is black upon power failure or termination.
  • Arms are extendable and retractable, and completely flexible, without joints.
  • Stands atop a single pole and wheel, which can also be retracted.
  • Possesses the accessories for jet-powered flight in place of his pole & wheel, but can only use this if he gets access to jet fuel or diesel.
  • Has four knobs on the front of his body that are responsible for sound processing, and can be used to alter the quality of his voice.
  • Has three fingers and one thumb for a grand total of four digits.
  • Has a red switch on his backside labelled "SWITCH".

  • Appears to be wearing makeup as a permanent feature, including dark eye shadow and impressive lashes.
  • Has two bolts above his eyebrow.
  • Fringe covers the right half of his face; if moved, it reveals that half of his face is incomplete. For cross-compatibility, you see.
  • Has a speaker and a dial on his chest plate. Chest plate is pink all the way around his torso.
  • Also has a switch on his back, but it's smaller and square in the center of his back.
  • Arms are extendable and retractable, and completely flexible, without joints. Yeah, they're pretty much exactly the same as his other body.
  • Has three fingers and one thumb for a grand total of four digits.
  • The chamber at his waist is exactly that: a chamber with a window. If you get close to it, you can peer inside at a pink heart floating within.
  • Looking at his waist from other angles shows metal bands traveling around his waist that are an interlocking system built to open and close the chamber at will.

FASHION.
Described as being fashionable and fashion-forward. Gendered clothes are no obstacle to him, as Mettaton will wear dresses, men's suits, and anything in-between. Always, always has a preference for high heels — even with rabbit-like feet, Mettaton will frequently commission fancy, flashy heels for someone with feet as long as his. It just means he can get absurd things like 10" heels without a platform, no problem! For more on Mettaton's fashion, I plan on collecting a few Aefenglom Looks below.

SCENT.
What the fuck is this smell? Distinct enough for Undertale's flavor text to jokingly read "Smells like Mettaton" during his battle. Mettaton is also known for manufacturing a fragrance that smells like him. Is it good, or is it bad? We can only leave it up to association, as I'm willing to bet that it's best described as... indescribably unique. Notes I might use to describe this cocktail of a fragrance: sweet and floral, metallic and artificial. Oil, roses, iron, sugar, musk, ozone/aether/ectoplasm, solder, new car smell, none of this actually exists together anywhere in harmony but here. Can you imagine all of these ridiculous smells put together into one cohesive unit? I sure can't! But that's what it is.

All in all, while it's certainly a smell, it'll probably rely on your character's association with him that determines whether they like Eau De Mettaton or not.

PHYSIOLOGY
LARGE INCISORS. Looks like Alphys. Appears somewhat bucktoothed.
EARS. Tall, silvery ears tipped in black. Please check out this pic to understand how he might emote with them.
HEIGHT. Mettaton, normally 6'8", is now 6'5" if standing flat-footed. He's usually not, however, and his long feet can boost him up to heights of 7'2". Habitually accustomed to heels, he usually holds himself at about 6'9" by standing on his toes.
GOLDEN IRISES.
FUR GROWTH. Arms, shoulders, lower back, back of neck, abdomen, hips, thighs, ears, legs. Fur is primarily grey, black, silver. His fur almost has a silvery, glittery quality (★, ★) like he rolled in the bathtub after somebody used a Lush bath bomb. Is he happy with that? You bet.
BROAD HIPS to accommodate his developed leg structure and bowed thighs.
POWERFUL LEGS. Important to note that his thighs have grown longer and thicker. Calves have grown shorter and more slender.
MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT in his legs?! Toned and firm; runs alongside internal metal skeleton, and is responsible for bulking up his legs. Body horror central. There is also some muscle developed in his head to aid in the movement of his ears.
RABBIT FEET.
RUNNING SPEEDS. He fast. Very fast.
JUMPING ABILITY is beyond me, because it's difficult to scale. But he Can Jump.
BLACK CLAWS.
PERT TAIL.
WEAKNESS TO IRON. That includes his own body.
FULL DEVELOPMENT OF TACTILE SENSATION, especially where there is tissue.
ABILITY TO TASTE. Incentivises eating, which he flat-out doesn't need for survival, but are transformations meant to be practical? Absolutely not. Can detect temperature only through his mouth.
ABILITY TO SMELL. A hare's most relied-upon sensory input, so of course he needs this.
ABILITY TO CHARGE BATTERY THROUGH BIOLOGICAL MEANS. This may include sleep or nutrients (???). It is not a perfect system (for obvious reasons), and he still requires some electricity.
INCREASED BODY TEMPERATURE. Byproduct of his transformation. Quite extreme. The surface of his metal body will still feel about the same as his surroundings, as metal is wont to do, but the tissue on his body will feel very warm as a constant. Feverish, perhaps.
TEMPERATURE REGULATION. Can cool down very quickly by releasing heat through his ears, which usually feel hot to the touch unless he's at rest.
SCENT GLANDS. So that other things can ALSO Smells Like Mettaton. Don't let him touch you.
BEHAVIOR
CHEWING FIXATION. Has greatest capacity for sensation in his mouth, ranging from temperature to touch.
DRAWN TO DIGGING, but doesn't feel inclined toward burrow-digging. May dig shallow ditches, however. And fill them with soft things.
AVERSION TO LONELINESS. Will seek out a crowd whenever possible.
MISCHIEVOUS. Prone to petty spite and playful tricks.
VINDICTIVE. Holds onto grudges and retaliates when slighted. Has an "eye for an eye" mentality at times.
HONOR-BOUND. Cannot leave a promise unfulfilled. Much to his chagrin. Will agonize over unfulfilled promises.
FREEZE OR... Yeah, mostly freeze instincts. Mettaton didn't develop so much of the flee instincts when shocked. Nice.
ZIG-ZAG RUNNING, because why the hell not confuse everyone on your way to where you go? Particularly true if Mettaton is in a hurry, or trying to evade someone or something.
THRILL-SEEKING. VERY thrill-seeking. To his detriment. Will even strike deals at the risk of his own life.
WARNS OTHERS OF DANGER by thumping his feet.
INCREASED APPETITE in the evenings?? Which is bizarre, considering Mettaton cannot eat. He doesn't feel hungry, but he does feel inclined toward eating more in the evening.
BARTERING. Has a strong inclination toward the Puca's Share and might demand items and dole out promises in return for them.
SCENTING things that Are His by rubbing his face against them.

MAGIC
SHAPESHIFTING. Capable of transforming his appearance into that of something else. Transformations are easier and last longer the closer the illusion is to looking like him.
RABBIT FORM. Capable of transforming into a hare that resembles the traits he's developed. This requires no understanding of its anatomy, but still requires the same use of magic.
VOCAL MIMICRY. Mettaton's ability to imitate the voices of others is impeccable at this point, so much so that it's criminal. Combining the sound processing capabilities of his body with the magic of a Puca results in a flawless imitation of any voice, relying only on Mettaton's ability to act the part.
VOICE THROWING. The ability to sound as if he's in a place he's not, such as across the room, behind a target, or omnipresent.
PROPHETIC SENSES. Can sense danger and other major events, but only by feeling. Cannot divine what the event is in detail, only its impact or the feeling it gives him.
FINDING MAGIC. Capable of locating lost or desired items.
LUCK MAGIC. Capable of imbuing others or himself with good fortune.

  • FUR COVERAGE increases down entirety of back, up his arms, and down the sides of his legs.
  • FUR COLOR becomes black, no more silver.
  • EYES become sharper gold, practically glowing even in the dark.
  • GHASTLY PRESENCE unique to a Puca, as a spirit in lore... but also because Mettaton is deadass a ghost. This looks like a haunting, lingering after-image of a supernatural persuasion. It's far more prominent when not looking directly at him.
  • SHARPER CANINES, if only because Mettaton already has the yaeba. His long incisors stay the same.

I'm basing Mettaton somewhat off of the common Black-Tailed Jackrabbit for their slender but Long build, large ears, and powerful legs.
Are you confused about Mettaton's legs?? So am I! I've been struggling HARD to draw what I'm thinking and I realized that the proportions of Mettaton's legs are just... Judy Hopps from Zootopia. (She even has the silver fur and black-tipped ears...) So take Mettaton's long legs and change the ratio of thigh-calf-foot to the same as Judy, and that's about right. He is plantigrade.
