UNDERTALE
Composed of aluminum, steel, and bulletproof glass, Mettaton is a robot. He possesses the usual trappings a robot would have, such as the ability to plug into things for program updates, or standard electrical outlets. He runs on electricity. For the most part, each of his forms have the same features: he has lasers built into his digits, rockets for flight, and remote calling and control capabilities. More typical robot stuff: he doesn't need to eat, doesn't need to sleep, doesn't become physically exhausted, is immune to organic ailments, and doesn't injure or experience pain the way organic creatures do.
On the other hand, Mettaton cannot recover from damage the way an organic being can: he require repairs. He can overheat, but only under extreme circumstances now that Alphys has completed his body. Unlike more advanced androids, Mettaton requires electrical recharge in order to keep functioning. If he runs out of battery, his body will shut down. Additionally, he can short-circuit/become corrupted/blah blah like other robotic beings. Doing so will only affect his body's function: his behavior and motivations cannot be modified.
Being a robot negates the "lack of physical substance" trait belonging to monsters, providing him with greater defense against the attacks of others when compared to most monsters. As Mettaton EX, his soul is provided with some durability thanks to his body, but Mettaton NEO is incredibly fragile and can perish with one good strike.
Mettaton has three forms he can transform into with the flip of a switch: his classic rectangular form, his EX form, and his NEO form. This is a mechanical/organic function.
In his classic rectangular body, Mettaton is described as invulnerable to attack. Physical attacks cannot harm his sturdy body, even if the character has ill intent. This only applies to his classic form.
In RP, I play this a bit loosely. If he's dropped in the ocean or smashed by a hydraulic press, he'll be ruined. His body's just very resilient to a lot of impact, and is definitely fire-resistant, but he's not totally impervious. His other two humanoid bodies are much flimsier and can sustain damage from frying pans and toy guns. So, you know.
Mettaton NEO is different from his other forms not only in its abysmal defense, but its unknown arsenal of potent weaponry. Supposedly, this arsenal is tailored to destroy a human with ease. Unfortunately, these capabilities are left up to the imagination since we never get to see him in action. His defense is so bad that he just dies. However, Mettaton can still transform into this body and do damage in it—but his defenses will be just as poor as they are in the game, leaving him totally exposed.
As a ghost, Mettaton possessed this robotic body. But after a process called "corporealization," Mettaton has fully fused with his host body, rendering him completely material and able to feel limited sensation. Mettaton has fused his soul with the heart-shaped core in his body, which is rigged to control his robotic form. Mettaton can control the heart-shaped core at will, levitating it or emitting attacks from it. In essence, Mettaton himself is that core.
This also means that if Mettaton's core is removed from his body, after some distance is placed between himself and his robotic host, the body will stop responding. He will be safe as long as his core is intact. Similarly, he can be killed by striking his core directly.
AEFENGLOM
During his time in aefenglom, Mettaton transformed into a creature known as a Monster—specifically, a Puca. In turning into a Puca, Mettaton developed not only a host of physiological & behavioral changes, but a variety of magical powers.
Under the two moons of Geardagas (the continent which Aefenglom took place in), Mettaton was originally only able to use some of these powers while magically Bonded to a Witch—that is, while his soul was tied to another player character who could practice magic. This was because Monsters were incapable of generating their own magic. However, because he has both sets of his powers, Mettaton has no trouble using his Puca powers! How convenient.
Below are the powers he developed as a Puca.
Capable of transforming his appearance into that of something else. Capable of partial or full transformations. Transformations are easier and last longer the closer the resulting form is to his own.
A Puca's shapeshift is a completely physical transformation that requires user knowledge of the end result. This means that if Mettaton wants to shapeshift into a snake, he needs to understand how snakes work on an anatomical level! If Mettaton's understanding of his shapeshift is incorrect or otherwise influenced, the shapeshift will be impacted.
Puca are among the fastest Monsters of Geardagas, beat out only by Turnskin, Harpies, or other Monsters specifically based on speedy animals. Mettaton has powerful legs for both running fast and jumping far and high. He can clear a rooftop with ease. Being an obnoxious robot probably helps.
Capable of transforming into a hare that resembles the traits he's developed. This requires no understanding of a hare's anatomy, and has gifted Mettaton the instinctive understanding of a hare's anatomy.
Mettaton's ability to imitate the voices of others is impeccable at this point, so much so that it's criminal. Combining the sound processing capabilities of his body with the magic of a Puca results in a flawless imitation of any voice, relying only on Mettaton's ability to act the part.
Capable of locating lost or desired items.
Luck is in his favor. In any activity involving luck, chance prioritizes Mettaton's victory. This is not infallible, and this isn't something Mettaton intentionally does.
